Dream Run #4: Running in Singapore

During our stay in Singapore, we saw a lot of runners while we are doing some sightseeing.  We see them in the morning, in the afternoon and at night.  Local runners, foreign runners, topless runners, and runners with strollers for their babies.

Since Quennie and I had yet to take our pictures in the city, we decided to have our recovery run Tuesday morning and visit The Merlion, Esplanade, Clarke Quay and Fort Canning.

The original plan is to get back to Sentosa on Tuesday morning to try surfing at the Wave Rider.  But constrains on time and money got in the way since we had to be in the airport by 3:00pm for our flight back to Manila.  The money issue was brought about by the need to buy some board shorts for the surfing.  We only saw those branded surfing short that costs over our budget.  We decided to have a recovery run in the city since Quennie has yet to take her picture at the Merlion.  To her, not seeing the Merlion in Singapore is like not seeing the Eiffel Tower in Paris.  It was a must that we go there before we leave.

Still tired from the Night Safari tour the other night with Doc Eric and Doc Pinx, we woke up at 7:00 am instead of 6:00am.  We hurriedly changed to our running clothes and run towards the Merlion.  I was about to start taking pictures when the camera said that the memory card was not installed.  I forgot to return it after transferring the pictures last night.  So I have to go back and get the memory card.  Such a waste of time.

It took me 30 minutes to meet Quennie again who was running back and forth between the Esplanade and the Merlion.  She met Totoy who was doing his recovery run too.  Now that the camera is ready, we took pictures and run thru the scenic spots of Singapore.

First Stop

First stop was at the Esplande and the Merlion.  We spent a lot of time taking picture here that we ran out of time.  But it was worth it.

Our favorite shot at the Esplanade Drive with the Esplanade at the background.

Of course, I need to have my own picture taken at this angle too.

I like how both of my feet are seen up from the ground.  I’m flying.

Queen’s Walk, Clarke Quay and Fort Canning

This is what we came back for.  Mer-Que and the Merlion.

After taking the shots we wanted, we proceed running to Clarke Quay.  Along the way, we stopped at The Queen’s Walk, and Sir Raffles Statue along the Singapore River.

Quennie running along the Queen Elizabeth Walk.  This park had several names in the past.

In 1953, it was named Queen Elizabeth Walk to commemorate the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II.
For 2009, it is now called Quennie’s Run to commemorate Quennie running the 21K in SCSM.  Hehehe…

The Asian Civilization Museum features Philippine Art until January.

Landing site of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles.  The genuis behind what Singapore is today.

After Clarke Quay, we wanted to run up to Orchard Road.  But it would be another 5 km.  We had to cut it short so that we can still get back to the hotel in time for our free breakfast.  😀

We almost got lost at Fort Canning.  We missed the turn and took the road going back to the City Hall.  Good thing, there was a map showing the area around the National Museum.

Im not sure of the name but the map says this is the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple in Tank Road.

We missed a turn and got to the National Museum of Singapore.

Good thing there was a vicinity map showing the streets nearby.

Finally back at the start area in Bencoolen St. where our hotel is located.

It was a short recovery run.  Just about 5KM not including the distance I have to run to get the memory card back at the hotel.  Short but sweet.  It makes Singapore look even smaller after running across 5 train stations.
