How to Join a Race in 5 Steps

I see that you have the interest in joining races as you land on this page. You just don’t ready yourself and join the race on the day of the event. Road races, especially the widely-talked events, can fill up within hours of opening so be sure you plan ahead. Many races offer late or on-the-day registration for runners who decided to join the race at the last minute but available spots are less guaranteed.

Step 1 – Do your research.

Long-distance races come in different routes and locations. They are open to all ages from all walks of life. So before you register, see to it that you understand your running capabilities and strengths. Ask around for race course and conditions. Aiming for a 5K or a 10K marathon is a great motivation but for a newbie like you, opt for a shorter distance first. Remember, first impression lasts.

Step 2 – Select a race.

Once you’ve figured out what category suits you, visit the race calendar (LIST OF RACES) of Takbo.ph. Read the details of the race event you wanted to join. Know the registration date, the registration site, and the contact person of the event. Also, properly read the notes and reminders included by some organizers to avoid miscommunication.

You can also type races.takbo.ph directly to your browser address to see the list of events.

Step 3 – Fill out the registration forms.

Registration forms, provided by some event organizers. You can also get a copy of these forms from the organizers in the provided registration site.

You can also type downloads.takbo.ph directly to your browser address to see the list of events.

Step 4 – Pay the registration fee and show the requirements.

Different race events have varying registration requirements. For example, marathons sponsored by Milo requires a registration fee (the amount depends upon the category), an empty Milo pouch (usually 300g), and completely filled-up registration form. Registration fee varies from one region to another. For online registration, fees can be deposited in a specified bank.

Registration fees range from P150 to P800 depending on the category. The fee includes a race kit. There are some fun runs that offer free registration in exchange of old or used items as donations to their chosen beneficiaries.

Step 5 – Get the race kit.

Race kits are obviously used during the race so don’t forget to bring them on the race day. Most race kit can be redeemed upon paying the fee. This will give you more time to pin your race bib on your shirt before the race.

If you registered online, you may inquire the place to pick-up your race kits. Other organizers provide the race kit on the day of the event so make sure that you arrive ahead of time.

Basically, the kit includes a race number, a singlet, and safety pins. Some organizers add race map, or timing chip. However, race kits contain different items for different race events.

Now that you’ve registered for the race event you desired, don’t forget to practice, practice, and more practice. The next article will help you prepare for your first race.

And, always keep in mind to visit Takbo.ph regularly for the latest news and updates.

Good luck and keep on running.
