BGC: A Place for Passionate Runners

Bonifacio Global City (BGC) is considered as one of the popular running places in Manila. My first fun run that started my passion for running was the Philippine International Marathon in 2006 at BGC, which was then commonly called The Fort or Fort Bonifacio.  Today, Bonifacio Global City gathers runners of all ages whether beginners, experienced or advanced.  Runners come here on weekdays for an early morning or an after office practice run, and on weekends to join running events. It is the “Run Capital” of the country today.  But running is just one of the many passions you can live in BGC.

To celebrate life’s unique diversity, BGC has become the home of passionate minds in the Metro.  BGC believes ordinary things become extraordinary once enthusiasm steps in. By providing different venues for different interests, people can pursue their passions, express themselves without restrictions and explore the limits of their imaginations. Whether your passion is in wellness, food, fashion or art, there will surely be a place for you. In 2011, we will see more rising landmarks like a new, landscape area twice the size of Bonifacio High Street, more retail outlets and an anchor department store.

For a chance to pursue the passion in keeping a healthy lifestyle, BGC has treated runners to a year-ender running event last November 27 and 28 – The Discovery Channel R.A.C.E: Run And Climb for the Environment, and the Run BGC road race.

In the Discovery Channel R.A.C.E. Vertical Run, runners were put to a new challenge where they scaled 9 ramps of parking levels and 25 floors of the E-Services building. An 18-year old Marvin Guarte won with the time of 16:09.

In the Run BGC road race that was held last November 28 with 3/5/10/21KM events in celebration of the Bonifacio Day, experience and new runners alike joined the different race categories. For the half marathon, it was Gerald Sabal who won with a 1:16:32 in the male category, while Marecil Maquilan bagged the top position for the female category at 1:28:4 finish time.

Other category winners are Kimbert Sarmiento and Grace Jacosalem for 3km, Roger Denolo and Kristine Cosio for the 5km, and Frank Indapan and Janetter Lumidao for the 10km.

The raffling off of a new Chevrolet Cruze sedan was the highlight of the event.  Timothy Humangit, who finished the 5km in 35:16 was the lucky winner of the brand new car.

Run BGC was for the benefit of communities in Taguig under the Believes, Grows and Cares – Taguig Program of Fort Bonifacio Development Foundation, Inc. (FBDFI).

For runners, BGC is the preferred venue for running due to accessibility of the location, well-lit roads for safety and plenty of restaurants to unwind in after that enjoyable run.  But more than the facilities and amenities, BGC shares the same passion with runners making it the “Run Capital”
