KapaligiRUN: A Green Run for Mt. Makiling Forest (MFR) 3/5/10/21K (Laguna)
KapaligiRUN: A Green Run for Mt. Makiling Forest (MFR) on October 8, 2011 at UPLB, Laguna. The KAPALIGIRUN is an activity that is part of UPLB and UPLBAA’s thrust to work together to sustain the protection and conservation of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MFR), a 4244-ha natural tropical forest and a biodiversity hotspot teeming with thousands of plant species, including more woody plant species than can be found in the entire United States. The MFR is the last natural forest in this bio-geographical zone, making its conservation imperative.

is this a trail run?
jake,
I’ve registered already for this event 10K. One section of the 21K is trail I think. The rest is road. I have checked the map..As for the other distances, walang trail.. though the climbs for the 10Km for which I have registered seems as tought as the previously concluded Makiling Challenge. I thought those climbs were reserved for the Makiling Challenge only, hindi pala, kasi tong KapaligiRUN e may akyat din.
Hi Lance, where did you checked the race maps ? Can you share them to us ? Thanks…
Japeth, I ca send you the race routes. Please send me your e-mail at kapaligirun2011@yahoo.com
Thanks!
sir japeth,
nakuha ko lang yung map sa racekit when i registered…siguro si kapaligirun uplb na lang..he seems to be with the organisers.
what time po ang gunstart nito?tnx
This turned out to be a well organized event.
I can Only speak for the 1Ok run, in which I participated in.
GOOD points:
(+) done for a good cause, conservation of the makiling forest reserve; organized by a university.
(+) challenging route; combination of flats, 2 paved uphills (10K & 21K) + a 6km trail for the 21Km.
(+) adequate hydration stations throughout the course.
(+) adequate marshalls, route directions & traffic control; plus the fact that the roads are in a school campus thereby very few vehicles pass by on the majority of the route.
- surprisingly well stuffed loot bag from surprisingly many sponsors (This is opposed to the Makiling Challenge)
- no apparent indecisiveness whether to push through or not despite rainy conditions.
BAD points:
-no announced gunstart.
-started kinda late at 610am (21K), 622am (10k); forgivable considering the sun is not expected/forecasted to be shining for the 21Km runners.
ALL in ALL, it turned out to be a good event.
Congratulations to the organizers! I thoroughly enjoyed the event as it was well organized, despite the rains earlier in the morning. The trail was very nice and the freebies after the race were awesome! I am joining next year, if the organizers decide to have another one.
I do hope that there were photos….
@Eric
I do hope they make this an annual event, as it offers an out-of-town run/race for the runners which is not that far from Manila. Just to break the monotony of running in the same venues in the metro. Runners can afterwards also have a dip in the resorts in Los Banos before going back to our busy scheds…Next year maybe I can be fit enough for the 21K as that distance is the only one that offers the 6km trail stretch..that should be a good challenge! see you then.
