Nike LunarGlide+ 4 Shoe Review

I got a pair of Nike LunarGlide+ 4. This is the latest running shoe from Nike which uses the Nike Flywire technology to provide a custom fit and its signature Lunarlon Dynamic Support system for stability and cushioning. The Nike LunarGlide 4 won the Best Update in Runner’s World Fall 2012 Shoe guide.

Here’s my shoe review of the Nike LunarGlide 4 after about 20KMs of mileage with the shoe.

PROS

Very soft and comfortable. The Nike LunarGlide series is well known among runners for its soft ride and the LunarGlide 4 is no exception. My feet slips in comfortably and the shoe feels pillow soft.

Great Fit. The Lunarglide 4 now uses the Flywire Technology to provide a snug fit from the midfoot. The laces create a custom fit whichs easily adjusts to the contour of my foot. The toe box is also just right. Not too tight. Not too roomy as well.

Firm Heel Support. I like how the heel counter is designed with the Nike LunarGlide 4. Their design doesn’t cover the whole heel of the runner but just clips it on the sides and the top. This lessens the pain brought about by constant contact or rubbing with the heel. A big help when I’m running longer distances.

Bouncy Run. The Lunarlon Cushioning System prides itself for being soft yet strong material. It’s softness results to a bouncy run which will feel like having a spring beneath the shoes. That is a sign of good energy return making each stride more efficient.

Lightweight. Despite being a fully-cushioned shoe, the Nike LunarGlide 4 is lightweight. It is just around 9.5oz compared to the typical range of 12 oz for shoes of the same type.

Nike LunarGlide 4 Outsoles

Clean upper design. The upper uses a tight breathable mesh all over. No seams. No creases to show the upper materials is getting old. This makes the shoes look new all the time.

CONS

High heel-to-toe drop. The Nike Lunarglide 4 is not designed for minimalist runners. It has a high heel-to-toe drop of  11mm. For minimalist runners, this feels like wearing high heels. That is how I felt when I first used it since I previously wore shoes with 4mm drop only. But a 11mm drop have its advantages. It aids you in a more efficient toe-off when running. Runners who prefers well cushioned shoes will benefit from it.

SUMMARY

The Nike LunarGlide stands out for its comfortable and pillow soft interiors.  It’s bouncy ride is very noticeable making it a great shoe for those who wanted more cushioning and more protection during their runs.  Best of all, it is still lightweight.
