Yakult 10Miler Run 2014 Race Recap

Yakult 10 Miler is a classic! If you want to experience what it was like running a race 5 or 10 years ago, join the Yakult 10 Miler.

This is a race that refuses to keep up with the trend. When you reach the finish line you know what to expect. You get 1 small Yakult drink and 1 cotton finisher shirt. While some runners find it frustrating, I find it encouraging.  I’ll be running like it was 2008 again.

The last time I joined a Yakult 10 Miler was in December 2008. It is still my best race. I had a pace of 5:20 min/km to finish the 16K at 1:26. I have never ran that fast since. But for the Yakult 10 Miler 2014, I have no intentions of breaking that PR. I will just run this as part of my training.

Mizuno was very generous to give a slot for the race. I grabbed the opportunity to run this race using the new Mizuno Wave Rider 17 as well. It will be a test run for the shoe and I will post a shoe review of the Mizuno Wave Rider 17 soon.

Familiar Route

The route is very familiar. I just ran the same roads the week before.  Starting from CCP Complex, we’d run to both ends of Roxas Blvd and back to CCP  Complex. Unfortunately, my GPS watch says it’s only 15.5KM.

It was not crowded and another great weather for a run. There are well managed  roads when going to Baclaran but there’s always the problem with bikers and other runners along Manila Bay.

Still Running Fast

If I follow my training plan, I should be running at 6:30 min/km only. That will let me finish the 16K at about 2 hours. The week before, I finished a 21K in about 2 hours too. So I find it uncomfortable to finish at 2 hours for my 16K.

Besides, I get carried away when running with fellow runners. I would run along their pace without me knowing I was running too fast already. It’s the fun part though.

I finished the Yakult 10 Miler 2014 at 1:31:49. And of course, a small bottle of Yakult and a Finisher Shirt was waiting for me at the finish line.

I plan to run the Yakult 10 Miler 2015. See you again next year.

Thanks again to Mizuno for inviting me to be part of the race.
