Skechers Performance started their Go Like Never Before campaign early this year with Gerald Anderson when he joined Los Angeles Marathon 2017.
On October 8, the Skechers newest brand ambassador, Lauren Lim, will conquer another prestigious global running event – Chicago Marathon 2017.
Lim is considered as a sports prodigy in the running and triathlon community. With a 2-year collective experience, she has already achieved so much (something which pro athletes would be envious of). In terms of Philippine ranking, she is currently number 1 in Ironman 70.3 within her age group (18 – 24 years old) and ranked number 16 globally.
Lauren Lim, just like most of us, started in 2015, with no prior background in marathon or in triathlon. She got interested in running when she discovered she can run and can finish fast. She kept wanting to see if she could go harder, faster and improve her finish times.
Lauren, at 24-year-old, works full time, on a 9-5 day job, with their family business but always makes time for her training. She trains on early mornings or late night, sometimes squeezing it during her lunch break. She always have a long day starting from waking up at 430am, start an hour or so of training at 5am, get back by 7am and prepare for work.
For the Chicago Marathon, which she got her slot thru lottery, she runs three times a week (one interval run, one tempo run and one long run). She also swims twice a week, rides her bike twice a week to maintain her triathlon fitness. She also lifts and high intensity interval training as cross training and strengthening.
“A good pair running shoes is very important. Out of all the legs of the race, running is the hardest on your feet. They can make or break you. If you’re not comfortable and stable running in your shoes, it will make the last part of the race really hard. It’s very easy to get injured while running in the wrong shoes, having the right shoes lessens the impact on the feet and the knees. During my last race, I wore my Skechers Go Run Ride 6 off-bike. My legs were already tired but my feet were comfy, which was really a big help, because I could keep on going forward.”
From zero experience, coupled with an intense desire to push and go out of her comfort zone, she has worked hard to accomplished what she has now.
