Organizers of the premiere Philippine Marathon Open 2014 has announced that all gadgets are not allowed during the race.

According to Race Director Don Cosimon, gadgets have taken away the prestige of a marathon and will not be allowed. Instead, race clocks and signages will be provided every kilometer for the runners to manage their race goals.

Among the gadgets that are not allowed are the following:

gadgets for marathoner

Communication Radios
GPS Watches
Digital Watches
Analog Watches
Pedometer
Accelerometer
Heart Rate Monitors
Video Cameras
Picture Cameras
Tablets
Portable Televisions
Laptops
Cassette Players
RC Cars
RC Planes
Quadcopters
Game n’ Watch
and all other battery operated devices.

Any runner caught using any gadgets will be taken out of the race and will be transported back to the starting line.

The gadget will be confiscated and will be included as a raffle prize during the awarding ceremony.  The runner with the confiscated gadget will not be allowed to win in any of the raffle prizes.

“It’s about time that we remove all distractions in the race and redirect our focus to the distance being tackled,” says Don Cosimon. “But this is just the tip of the iceberg.  You should expect more policy changes in our races in our future events.”

What do you think of the new rule?  Does it make sense?
