Nat Geo Urges Eco Warriors to Join Earth Day Run 2017

Celebrating its eight straight year of holding the Earth Day Run, National Geographic (Nat Geo) Channel calls on their loyal Eco Warriors to join the Earth Day Run 2017 on April 23 at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds.

Part of the earnings in the event will be donated to the “rainforestation” of Angat Dam and Ipo Watershed, which supplies majority of the water coming into Metro Manila.

According to event organizer Run Rio, they expect to attract around 20,000 runners to join the race and participate in their cause.

Perks and Rewards for Previously Registered Earth Day Runners

All previously registered participants will be given VIP treatment and special loyalty perks from the race organizers including:

  • Access to special warm-up and cool down tent before and after the race so they can stretch and recover in comfort
  • Priority placement in front of the starting line at the beginning of the race
  • A special express both when claiming their loot bags and finisher shirt

Prizes for Costumed Runners

Other than the customary podium finishers, the best ensemble of costumed runners who will run with costumes made from recycled materials will also win cash prizes.

Run Rio has initially announced that they will judge the winners based on two important criteria: the materials used in the costume and its relevance to the running event’s cause of saving the environment.

At the finish line, advocacy banners will be hung and finishers must grab them and loudly shout the message written on it. They can later use this as a souvenir or a selfie material to amplify the message of being active in the pursuit to save the environment.

Aside from the Philippines, other neighboring Asian cities like Hongkong, Taichung, Singapore, and Shanghai will also be holding their own Earth Day Run simultaneously on April 9.

Earth Day Run 2017 is brought to you by National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) and its partners: Fox Networks Group, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Cherifer Premium.
