Here’s the review of the new Huawei Watch 3.

Smooth and Intuitive Controls

Using Huawei Watch 3 has been smooth and pleasant. The curved 3D glass is well polished that even your fingerprint can leave a mark. All the controls are responsive from the touch screen, the crown and the side button. They all work together for a seamless user experience. Moving from one menu to the next is very fast and convenient.

Accurate Location Tracking for Runs and Rides

Many sport watches use GPS for location tracking. Huawei Watch 3 uses GNSS or Global Navigation Satellite System. The GNSS is a generic term to describe any satellite constellation that provides positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. GPS or Global Positioning System is just one of such type of Global Navigation Satellite System. Thus, Huawei Watch 3 can use navigational satellites from other networks beyond the GPS system. This means higher accuracy and reliability.

Our runs and rides using the Huawei Watch 3 has been reliable. The distances from our usual routes are showing similar readings. There may be variations but that is expected of most GPS watches.

Running Courses from Beginner to Advanced

The Huawei Watch 3 can track 19 pro-modes for indoor and outdoor sports. This includes running, cycling, walking, swimming, triathlon, hiking, skiing, rowing and 85 more custom modes.

The Watch 3 has 13 running course included in the workout menus. The courses are like training plans for you to follow. You can choose the beginner courses or the more advanced courses.

For example, the Basic Level has Run/Walk Interval workouts or the Easy Runs. These are just 25 to 30 minutes guides to follow and help develop your aerobic capacity. While the Endurance Level includes the 70-minute Long Slow Distance Run to help increase your aerobic stamina.

24/7 Health Monitoring

The Huawei Watch 3 has 24/7 Health Monitoring for heart rate, SpO2, sleep and stress level. The skin temperature sensor is added to the Watch 3. With the current pandemic, these health indicators can help put your mind at ease. The body temperature has been useful to check for fever and the SpO2 is for checking oxygen levels.

While these readings are not to be replaced with medical diagnosis from a doctor, they can provide a means of early detection so you can take action sooner.

Powerful Features for Watch Connection

The Huawei Health is the companion app for the Huawei Watch 3. As a smartwatch, it provides rich features and connectivity.

I like how I can answer phone calls on the watch. I don’t need to pull out my phone from the bag. I just need to press answer on the watch and communicate from the watch itself. Just like in sci-fi movies. The audio from the watch is loud and clear. The caller can hear me clearly as well.

Music can be controlled also from the watch with a dedicated screen to play, pause and skip songs.

eSIM: Fully Connected without a Smartphone

Nowadays, it is hard to leave home without a phone. Bringing a phone provides a sense of security that you can receive or create an important call while running or biking. At the same, it can feel bulky when running with a phone.

But with the eSIM feature of the Huawei Watch 3, you can now leave your phone at home. It can now be used as a phone for calls and messages. That is running or biking with one less gadget to carry along, but with a peace of mind.

Fun Watch Faces

We love the selection of watch faces. There are classic analog dials. There are colorful and bright designs. There are clean, simple interface. There are information-loaded designs. There are interactive games on the watch too. You can easily personalize our watch to fit your mood or your outfit.

Battery Life

We had most of the features turned on like the heart rate, SpO2 and sleep monitoring. The batter would last close to 48 hours. Thus, we often need to charge every other day.

With the GNSS/GPS turned on for runs, a 1-hour activity used up about 15% of the battery. This means it can probably last up to 6 hours of continuous running or biking after a full charge. That is just enough to use it for a full marathon course. It will last longer if other watch features are turned off or minimized like the brightness and phone notifications.

The battery life for the Huawei Watch 3 can reach up to 14 days by selecting the Ultra-long Battery Life. You can enable this feature anytime to extend the battery life of the watch.
