Hangaway Trail Ultra 2025

The Hangaway Trail Ultra is the first ultra-distance trail running event in Panay, held in the province of Antique — Home of the “Hangaways” — the event celebrates the fierce, resilient spirit of the Antiqueños, believed to be descendants of Datu Sumakwel, one of the ten legendary Bornean Datus who settled Panay in the 13th century.

Launched in January 2016, Hangaway Trail Race was Antique’s second-ever trail running event, following A Taste of Antique Trails (A.T.A.T.), the first trail race in the province and across Panay, also organized by Antique Road and Trail Running.

The term “Hangaway” — a Visayan word meaning “warrior” — captures the soul of the event. More than just a race, Hangaway is a rite of passage, a personal call to every runner to awaken the warrior within, as they traverse challenging terrain across Antique’s breathtaking natural landscapes — from forest trails to rugged hills, rivers, and remote villages.

With categories from 12km to 50km, Hangaway provides an inclusive platform for all levels of runners — from beginners to elite athletes. More importantly, it serves as a grassroots incubator for discovering and developing local athletic talent, particularly among the youth and indigenous communities in Antique and the wider Panay region.
