adidas Holds 5th Year of Run for the Oceans
adidas Philippines launched the 2022 edition of the Run for the Oceans (RFTO) campaign last May 15 at its store in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Scores of runners participated in the event, which officially kicked off the annual drive to end marine plastic pollution.
adidas x Parley Run for the Oceans 2022
adidas has also tapped the help of its long-time partner Parley in the ocean clean-up initiative. The adidas x Parley Partnership aims to collect up to 250,000 kilograms of garbage before diving into the ocean.
The shoe and clothing giant said they would match every 10 minutes of recorded fitness activity to cleaning up a plastic bottle washed ashore on beaches, coastlines, and remote islands.
To help in adidas’s advocacy, you can cycle, walk, shoot hoops, run, and even kick goals. You can record your activity on apps like Runtastic, Joyrun, Strava, Codoon, and Yeudongquan from May 23 to June 8.
adidas will also host several runs and activities throughout the RTFO campaign. They have also collaborated with adidas Runners Manila (aRM), one of the largest running communities in the country.
In 2015, the Philippines was tagged as the third-largest contributor to marine plastic pollution, according to McKinsey Center for Business and Environment and Ocean Conservancy. Some 521,000 tons of the country’s 2.7 metric tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean.
adidas Runners City Plogging Challenge
Aside from doing fitness activities and uploading them on partner platforms, you can also help by joining plogging sessions on May 22. Runners can select any of these locations to run:
- Pasay- adidas MOAtak
- Makati- adidas Brand Center Glorietta
- Taguig- adidas Two Parkade, BGC
adidas has joined hands with The Plastic Flamingo (The Plaf), which will recycle the plastic gathered during the plogging sessions into eco-friendly building materials.
adidas Runners 10 Minute Store Challenge
Furthermore, adidas has also launched the 10 Minute Store Challenge during the RTFO campaign. Go to any adidas stores listed above and run for 10 minutes on their designated running tracks or treadmills. Top performers are said to receive adidas x Parley products as prizes.
