Sometimes, it is easier to learn how things should be done by seeing how things are NOT to be done. Here’s a funny video that shows how not to run. It features runners who are so awkward they don’t look like running at all.
All of them run in such a way that running coaches would cover their faces in disgust. It’s a very funny video since the runners are exaggerating. But look closely and you’d learn a thing or two on how to run better and more efficiently.
This video could save you time from reading books on running and running form. Just watch and learn. 😀
Below are some pointers on how each runner on the video might improve on their running.
The Geezer – Heel strikes too much. Arms are swinging too high with the elbow reaching the ears. He needs to lower his arms and elbows when swinging and bend his knees while running.
The Dandy – Arms are swinging to the sides that it shifts your center of gravity. It is much better for the arms to swing in front. The torso should also stay in place as much as possible and refrain from moving side to side.
The T-1000 – Arms are too stiff and the body is not leaning forward. He needs to lean a bit more forward to create a better momentum. The palms can be relaxed by keeping it closed like holding a banana
The Flightless-Bird – The body is bouncing too much which is very inefficient. He overstrides a lot. He needs to avoid the jumping motion and take smaller steps.
The Stiff – He’s too stiff. Muscles should be relaxed from the head down to the foot. He needs to relax his shoulders, bend his amrs and bend his knees. He also needs to keep his feet together.
The runners here are definitely exaggerating which helps point out the things to be improved. I hope not to see them on the road when I run. I might end up laughing and not finishing at all.
